WHO AM I?
Meliha Ar is a photographer whose work is informed by movement between places, cultures, and ways of seeing. Born in Oberhausen, Germany, and raised in Turkey, she developed an early awareness of how identity and belonging are shaped by geography, memory, and everyday experience. With a background in journalism, she approaches photography as both a documentary practice and a form of inquiry. Her interest lies not in spectacular moments, but in the subtle details through which people relate to places, to one another, and to themselves. Alongside photography, she explores narrative through screenplay writing, extending her interest in storytelling across visual and written forms. Influenced by diverse cultural and aesthetic traditions, her work reflects an ongoing curiosity about the ways images can preserve memory, question perception, and create connections across different experiences.
